Affectionate

Children with Williams syndrome are often friendly and very affectionate towards other people. 

This behaviour is sometimes described as ‘oversocial’. They are often too open, direct and personal in their communication with others, without recognising the ‘normal’ social barriers. 

For example, they find it difficult to understand that hugging or kissing strangers is not always appropriate. This can sometimes lead to problems. It is therefore advisable to contain this affectionate behaviour from an early age.
