Baby phase

Baby period

Almost all babies with MSS have breathing problems immediately after birth. Because of their narrow airways and less muscle tone> they also have difficulty swallowing. Feeding therefore often causes problems. Another common problem is bright (daytime) light: their eyes cannot cope well with this.

In the first months after birth, a baby can easily contract a respiratory infection. Sometimes hospitalisation is then necessary. It can even be life-threatening in the vulnerable first phase of life. Deaths from its effects are fortunately becoming less common. Knowledge about this condition is growing and treatments for symptoms are improving.
